Valparai is a pristine hill station deep in the Anamalai Hills, far quieter than Ooty. The drive from Coimbatore via Pollachi includes the famous 40 hairpin bends through the Anamalai Tiger Reserve. Expect Nilgiri Tahrs, lion-tailed macaques, elephants and waterfalls. Not everything worth seeing needs a Ghat road. The 112-ft Adiyogi statue at Isha Yoga Center is just 30 km from the city at the foothills of Velliangiri — about an hour from Coimbatore railway station, Gandhipuram bus stand or the airport.
